Free French Conversation Workshop

Learning French will help you integrate more quickly into Quebec society.

The French Conversation Workshops are offered as part of the Accompaniment and Support Program for Integration (PASI)administered by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI).
They help immigrants living in Montreal improve their confidence in French and participate more fully in social, professional, and community life in Quebec.

What Is a French Conversation Workshop?

French conversation workshops are designed to help participants practice spoken French and do not replace French language courses. CACI also offers French courses recognized by MIFI.

What Are the Benefits of Participating in French Conversation Workshops?

The workshops allow participants to:

  • Practice spoken French, expand their vocabulary, and gain confidence communicating in everyday situations such as completing administrative procedures, meeting neighbours, speaking with their children’s teachers, talking to a doctor or pharmacist, and more;
  • Better understand the requirements of the Quebec labour market, prepare for job interviews, and build professional contacts;
  • Meet other immigrants and community members, share experiences, and reduce social isolation;
  • Understand Quebec customs, values, social norms, and the way community life functions;
  • In short, live better in Quebec, build connections within the community, and participate fully in Quebec society.

Who Can Participate in the Workshops?

Conversation workshops are open to anyone aged 18 and over, except individuals holding visitor status (tourists). You may join an ongoing session at any time. To participate, you must have an up-to-date file with CACI.

What Do the Workshops Consist Of?

The French conversation workshops offered under the Programme d’accompagnement et de soutien à l’intégration (PASI) are generally designed as spaces for oral practice, discussion, and support, helping immigrants develop their ability to communicate in French in everyday situations in Quebec.

The workshops are led by French-speaking volunteers who offer:

  • Discussions on topics related to everyday life, such as administrative procedures, housing, health, employment, education, transportation, public services, and social relationships;
  • Role-playing activities;
  • Vocabulary and spoken French exercises;
  • Intercultural exchanges.
